Youth Ministry Coordinator
Ms. Brigitte Bernhardt has been coordinating the Youth Ministry since June 1996. She has one son, Shaun, who is now 27 years old. She became interested in the spiritual education of her child and wanted to be an integral part of what he was learning. “I wanted our spiritual life to be a part of our daily life”.
She started the twelve powers lessons, the five unity principles, the wonder curriculum, choices and consequences, fair play, navigating through change and Jesus’ teachings as wonderful ways for children to learn how to follow the spiritual path. “We practice prayer, meditation, songs, games, science fun and creative expression to learn forgiveness, compassion, choices, acceptance, and uniqueness. We are all children of God”.
Brigitte implemented the Youth Sunday program to give families time to connect while having fun. She organizes the annual water slide kick off, Halloween party, Christmas play, a full rendition of the Last Supper, and Easter egg hunt for the children to enjoy every year.
Brigitte also works at the Safety Harbor Montessori Academy in Clearwater. She taught ages 3-6 for 16 years and is now enjoying teaching 1-3 grade. Brigitte earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Therapy. She continuously expands her educational knowledge through Montessori conferences and workshops addressing the development of children dealing with stresses of our world today. Brigitte also loves yoga. “ Being centered is the best way to relate and facilitate self growth.Using yoga with children works.”
Loving and learning with children are her passion. “We have been growing, learning and playing by leaps and bounds. We have 25-40 children coming to Sunday School every week. We have a total of 27 youth ministry volunteers working with our children from the toddlers to the teens every month. She gives lessons to the volunteers the week before they teach. They prepare and present the lessons. She gives them any support and/or materials which they need. We also have teachers’ meetings and regional learning sessions to address special situations which arise in youth ministry today.
If you want to get involved, please let her know. You’ll love it.
